There’s a problem with saying that you’re going to do things “when the season’s over.”

I found myself doing this constantly this year. “I’m really going to hit the gym and start that part of training when the season’s over.” “I’m going to figure out a reason to try to chat up that guy when the season’s over.” “I’m going to settle down and write something of substance when the season’s over.” “I’m going to figure out my absolutely ridiculous schedule and set aside time for, you know, my life. When the season’s over.”

The problem is this: although it doesn’t feel like it in May, June, July, August or even September, the season is ultimately going to come to an end. Sometimes sooner than you expect (thanks a lot, guys). And when it does, you’re faced with the realization that you either have to put your money where your mouth is or come up with some other silly reason for delay.
