Fini I do believe that my first endeavor into that which is scarf-dom and crochet is complete. This is cause for celebration. Huzzah! A new skill learned, a new hobby begun, a new reason to raid the craft stores with a sense of purpose and meaning in life.

I am rather partial to being crafty.

That said, I fear that I may have learned the wrong craft. Because it was as I was nearing completion of the bundle of yarn pictured above that I went to a website (Martha Stewart wouldn’t lead me wrong, would she? That’s what I thought.) and saw how actual, you know, crocheters work the hook and yarn.

I don’t know what it is that they are doing, but it sure as hell isn’t what I’m doing. They actually work the hook through the yarn with some sense of nimbleness, whereas I prop that sucker against my body and work away with the fingers.

More of a tapestry weaving than actual, um, crocheting. This discovery led to my outburst of the evening: “Hey, I am creating a tapestry of AWESOME.”

Yarn-centric ramble aside, I have another task looming ahead, scheduled to begin in approximately…wow, 23 minutes.

I’m NaNoWriMoing — or for those not in the mood for acronyms, participating in the National Novel Writing Month challenge. I’ve a literary partner in crime (everyone say hello to Nicole) and absolutely no idea of where my characters are going to go. Who they even are, actually. But I’m going to have some collection of 50,000 words or so by December 1.

Yikes. I mean — Yay. Obviously. Performance anxiety is kicking in already.

So. Upcoming: a novel (ack — four minutes!), who knows how many scarves and tomorrow, on the first day of November, my soundtrack from October (otherwise known as “Victoria respectfully rips off the idea Cameron Crowe came up with years ago”).

It’s all happening…
(sorry, couldn’t resist)
